Lou Tompkins Summer All Star Baseball Try outs!

 

If you ‘re interested email or call Coach Coppola at 774-249-8289 or petecoppola11@verizon.net by Saturday May 15^th for a try out evaluation. Provide the following information: Name, phone, email, and three position(s) you’re interested in. Also provide a brief self analysis of your skills.

Try outs will be held for players that apply on Sunday may 16^th starting at 9AM on Lower Stevens field, and on Monday May 17^th on Upper Stevens field starting at 6PM. The tryouts will be tailored to the position(s) you are trying out for. All players will be notified about the selection process 24 hours after the final tryout date.

 

Division B is designed for 13-14 year olds. (A player cannot be 15 on April 30, 2009.) 

 

 

The schedule shall consist of twenty (20) regular season games played in two rounds.  Round I will consist of eight (8) games with the scheduling of games based primarily on geographical proximity. 

 

Round II will consist of twelve (12) games and will be based on strength of teams as determined after Round I.  Those teams placed into the upper division will continue with their won/loss record from Round I.  Those teams placed into the lower division will start Round II with a fresh won/loss record of 0-0.  There will be a Round II playoff for the lower division.  The Tournament of Champions grand playoff will be held and will be comprised of the top eight (8) teams from the upper division. 

 

The Babe Ruth League Rule Book, as supplemented by these rules, shall be the sole method of play.

 

8.0          BASEBALL BAT STANDARDS

 

8.1    The new metal baseball bat standard adopted in 2001 calls for a narrower, heavier, and more wood-like bat.  The maximum bat diameter is 2 5/8 inches, and the unit differential, namely the difference between bat length measured in inches and bat weight measured in ounces, will be three (3) units.

 

 

A note from the coach: Lou Tomkins Summer baseball is a great program. The rules are “real baseball” as outlined in the Babe Ruth Rule Book. The 495 league uses modified rules to ensure all players get a chance to play. That said it is my personal philosophy and experience coaching travel teams that all players will be communicated with about their roles and I take pride in competing utilizing the entire team as much as possible. There will be no surprises about playing time. We play to win as a team.

Sportsmanship, effort and “coachability” are traits that are expected. Players will be challenged to exceed their expectations and the team will practice in an organized and purposeful manner. Every player should grow from their participation.

In conclusion Lou Tompkins baseball takes games seriously and forfeits cost the 495 league monetarily so the roster may be large to accommodate summer vacation schedules. Please make sure to commit to the team and look forward to having a fun summer playing great baseball!
